Age Of Empires IV 2023 Brings Multiple Games To Xbox Console

Microsoft has announced that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV will arrive on Xbox systems and Game Pass consoles in 2023.

Microsoft has announced that Age of Empires games will be coming to  Xbox consoles in 2023. Age Of Empires IV 2023 is a popular real-time strategy series that is mainly tied to the PC platform. The RTS genre as a whole tends to stay away from consoles due to how difficult it is to make them work with controllers.

The RTS genre is better suited to a mouse and keyboard than a controller, although this hasn’t stopped some developers from adapting games to use a controller. A classic example is the Xbox 360 port of The  Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth 2, which made the game as fluid as possible by using each button to create multiple shortcuts to allow players to quickly switch between activities. A more modern example is the console port of Crusader Kings  3, which did a great job of making the game playable on a controller, especially since you can pause the action at any time.

The Xbox lineup of systems is getting some amazing RTS games in 2023. Microsoft announced in a video on the official Xbox YouTube channel that  Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on January 31, 2022. Age Of Empires IV 2023 will also arrive on Xbox systems, with both games available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. The official Xbox website announced that the Xbox version of Age of Empires II will feature 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes, and 7 co-op campaigns. The two games will have an optional cross-platform play and will be compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Age Of Empires 2 And 4 Coming To Xbox

Age of Empires IV on Xbox systems has been leaked in the past, but it’s great that it’s finally confirmed, along with a port of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. The big addition to both games is controller support, but they will also be mouse and keyboard compatible for those who want to play the game as if it were on PC. The fact that both games will be streaming is impressive, especially since they can keep fans alive until the recently announced  Age of Empires Mobile is released.

The controller dilemma is what has kept many RTS games away from consoles in the past, and it’s great to see Microsoft bringing more of them to Xbox systems. Age of Empires is a massive Xbox franchise, and it has just as much space on consoles as it does on PC. The quality of controller integration in Xbox  Age of Empires games remains to be seen, and it will be interesting to see how the developers deal with the challenges of adding a slower control method to such demanding games.
