MAN SUSPECTED OF HAVING OPENED FIRE IN AN LGBT CLUB IN COLORADO?
UNITED STATES: WHO IS THE MAN SUSPECTED OF HAVING OPENED FIRE IN AN LGBT CLUB IN COLORADO?
Authorities have identified the suspected shooter who killed 5 people and injured 18 others at a Colorado nightclub, without specifying whether he acted alone. The man was arrested and taken to hospital.
At least five people were killed and 18 others injured in the United States in a shooting that took place overnight from Saturday to Sunday. A 22-year-old gunman suspected of opening fire at an LGBT nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has been arrested. The individual had been stopped in his tracks by at least two customers of the nightclub, described as “heroes” by the local police.
The Colorado Springs police chief said the suspected shooter was identified as a 22-year-old man named Anderson Lee Aldrich, without specifying whether he acted alone. The individual was known to the police, according to information from The Washington Post newspaper.
Arrested And Taken To The Hospital
On Sunday morning, authorities have so far refused to answer questions about the suspect’s motives. “The motive for the crime is part of the investigation and whether this was a hate crime is part of that investigation,” said the deputy chief of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Adrian Vasquez.
According to the police, he was hospitalized after his arrest, although the forces of order did not neutralize him by firearm. During the shooting, he was in possession of two weapons, including a rifle.
This new drama is part of a context of the resurgence of acts hostile to transgender people, according to statistics from associations and the FBI. The nightclub had announced an LGBT event on Saturday, a party “with all kinds of gender identities and numbers” on the occasion of Transgender Day of Remembrance, celebrated internationally on November 20. The killing also illustrates the soaring mortality linked to firearms in a country where they circulate in very large numbers.
