Harry Styles shows off his acting skills in a Rolling Stone exclusive preview of the psychological drama “Don’t Worry Darling”. In the film, Styles and his partner Florence Pugh star as Jack and Alice Chambers, a happy couple who live in a seemingly idyllic town. We Got This Covered: Don’t Worry Darling: Harry Styles’ Accent Mocked Online

The video was originally posted on the official Don’t Worry Honey Twitter account but was later reposted by MovieRankings.net.

The video has racked up over 2.2 million views:

“Don’t Worry Darling”, which premieres Sept. 23, is one of two big films Styles will star in this year. The other, My Policeman by Michael Grandage, will be released on November 4. As of this writing, the video has racked up over 2.2 million views. However, the accompanying comments were far from complimentary about Styles’ performance or, more specifically, his accent.

Responses to the clip were ruthless, to say the least, with viewers flocking to Styles’ slam accent while praising Pugh for being about to perform.

Ballybunyip wrote: “what is that accent? Cockney? American? I’ll pass” while Sez_Sketch commented, “Why did they release this clip? Surely they knew his 1000 accents in 5 seconds wouldn’t go down well.”

Cwebs101 said: “God, being beautiful has to be awesome. Go with anything,” Jomm20953993 asks, “Is he supposed to have an accent or not? Because either way, he failed.”

AmAyeRong compared it to an “SNL sketch” while Trevor Dow said, “Anyone who thought this was the clip to post should be honestly fired.”

Harry Styles is a pretty terrible actor, fan says:

“Wow Harry Styles is a pretty terrible actor,” j*zzing_saddam commented with birdfacepower. Moreover, he added, “I don’t know what he does but Florence’s American accent is impeccable”. Adkika Godwin said: “Harry Styles makes it seem like it takes so much effort” while Itstupidluv replied: “The multitude of accents, the lack of commitment to a single emotion – you can’t be serious”.

Viiola_dc offered a defense, writing, “this is his real accent, he’s been traveling non-stop for 16 years” although few were convinced with a sizzling conclusion. “Florence Pugh is really going to wear this, isn’t he? Apparent styling issues buck the accent trend, with voice coach Paul Meier. Previously told Den of Geek that it’s more common for Americans to struggle with British accents than the other way around.

“Americans tend to be more insular,” he explained. “American English is the global language, very few Americans have passports, they don’t travel. It is a large country, very self-sufficient. And so for these social, socio-linguistic reasons, Americans don’t tend to be as good at accents.”

The criticism comes after a rough few days for the One Direction favorite who recently addressed queerbaiting accusations in an interview with Rolling Stone which also drew the ire of fans and Michael Jackson’s family after Styles was crowned the new king of pop.
