The MacBook Air M2 is Apple’s best modern laptop. If you don’t have Air on M1 of course, it turned out even better than the MacBook Pro on M2. An expert from the Rozetked YouTube channel compared the MacBook Air M2 with the previous version of this laptop on the M1 and found out whether it makes sense to buy a new model.

What do you get with the MacBook Air M2?
So what do you get with the MacBook Air M2? Of the new – only a 35 W charging unit (there is also a 67 W option when buying, which allows you to charge a laptop by 50 percent in 30 minutes) and a cable. Also, the power supply has USB Type-C connectors, that is, theoretically, you can charge your MacBook and smartphone at the same time.
The thickness of the new laptop model is only 1.1 cm (the previous version was from 0.4 to 1.6 cm). The keyboard has been improved and is very comfortable. However, there are very few ports.
The display of the MacBook Air M2 has increased: the diagonal has become equal to 13.6 inches versus 13.3 inches on the MacBook Air M1. It also became much brighter: 500 nits versus 400 nits for the previous model. Of the minuses here, only that the refresh rate is only 60 Hz.
In benchmarks, the MacBook Air M2 generally outperforms the MacBook Pro M2 and MacBook Air M1. However, the new model is still more powerful, so it needs a good cooling system. In addition, those involved in the installation often heavily load the system.
The new laptop model comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There are also RAM options in 16 and 24 GB, as well as SSD in 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. The minimum 256 GB version will be very much behind the MacBook Air M1 in many ways and will actually be twice as slow as a 512 GB laptop. So if you want to get a MacBook Air M2, go for the 512GB variant (which costs $200 more).
There are problems with the new laptop model compared to the Pro version and performance under load. You can see all the results above. As for autonomy, under load, the MacBook Air M2 can “live” for a couple of hours longer than the MacBook Air M1. But it is hardly worth it to change the old version to the new one.
Conclusion:
The MacBook Air M2 is almost the perfect laptop for any user. This applies to working in Photoshop, and just surfing the Internet. However, if you already have a laptop on the M1, then you should not buy a new model as a replacement for the old one.
