Metal Hellsinger Game Review The Rock Concert In Hell

Hell is restless again. No, no one is planning to take over Earth and destroy Heaven. But it seems that the Devil has a new personal enemy. An unnamed heroine sets out to regain her voice. And woe to all those who stand in her way.

The premise of Metal: Hellsinger is incredibly simple. There is a player, there is a goal, and between you – hordes of demons. Fortunately, you are not empty-handed either: you are proficient in both melee and firearms. Which becomes extremely effective when struck or fired to the beat of the music.

Among the bastards was an artist …

It is clear that Metal: Hellsinger attracted the attention of the audience by no means the protagonist. Of course, the Nameless One is strong, agile, and skillful: she can jump high, if necessary, move sharply over a short distance, dodge the blows of enemies, and, if necessary, harshly crack down on them.

Starting with just a sword, and soon with a shooting skull (which, by the way, acts as a narrator of the story), she will find new weapons in the levels that will allow her to more effectively destroy demons. There is, for example, a local analog of a shotgun, there is a crossbow with exploding shells, there are revolvers and boomerang knives …

Here, in general, and the whole arsenal. Six types of weapons with their own characteristics and rhythm, and as a rule, two basic ones will always be with you, and on a mission, you will have to take 1 or 2 of the additional ones. But by the middle of the game, you already find your favorites and, if you wish, you can use only this weapon until the very end. Moreover, the ammo here is endless – you just need to reload in time.

Passing through the locations, we will periodically encounter both small groups of opponents and waves of enemies. There are not that many demons here either, but sooner or later there will be those who will infuriate you the most. However, everyone has their weak points, and even at first, the seemingly invulnerable enemy, in the end, will not pose any threat to us.

But I believed that not everything was lost yet …

So, Metal: Hell singer meets us with not the most outstanding hero, offers not so many types of weapons, and there are not so many enemies here (although, of course, we will fight with crowds of enemies). Add to this the fact that the game itself turned out to be very short: at an average level of difficulty, it can be completed without much strain in 5-6 hours, sometimes dying in particularly difficult places (for example, during boss battles).

You can spend another couple of hours in local (rather difficult!) tests, called torture. Torture sends players into one arena or another, offering a specific weapon in order to complete some task: for example, destroying demons without restoring health (usually you can “find” it in a level or replenish it by finishing off “highlighted” enemies). At the same time, each torture is limited in time, that is, it will not work to sit out somewhere.

After completing these challenges, you will receive certain bonuses that will make the passage of the game much easier. For example, you often have very low health – well, you can make it so that when your health is at a minimum, your damage increases noticeably.

If we return to the levels, yes, the developers have created quite linear spaces, and you definitely won’t get confused in the conditional labyrinths. But at the same time, it is really beautiful, awesome, and somehow even … cozy here. Ice or fire, the gloomy tones of this world and in themselves at least do not cause rejection, and together with the music, something incredible begins here!

Yes, the true heroes of this story are the men and women who give the game a voice. Rock music, as it should be, inspires us to kill demons in rhythm, dodge their attacks, and increase our rage. First twice, then four, then eight… And only when the rage of the Nameless One is at its maximum, do the words of the songs begin to sound. Once you reach 16x the level of rage and hear your favorite songs in full glory, you will want with all your heart to complete the game perfectly. If only the singing didn’t stop!

Surely among these faces and names, you will meet at least a couple of acquaintances and in any case, you will find something new for yourself. Metal: Hell singer is arranged according to the principle: one level – one composition. There are no whole albums or dozens of songs in the game, but the ones that are there are beautiful. Not for everyone, but wonderful.

But hell became heaven’s ally that night

Ultimately, Metal: Hellsinger is a game about gameplay. About enjoying good music and great gameplay. Not ideal, sometimes infuriating (but most often you swear at your clumsiness), but able to give pleasure those few hours while the game lasts. Or even more, if you suddenly decide to replay the old levels for the sake of a better result (for example, to get into the top leaders) or music.

The developers offer a simple story, which takes place in hell, but does not do without forces from other “regions”. And after passing the game, you understand that the authors still have something to tell. I’m not sure that the same music will sound in those places as in hell, but you still want to hear: what will happen next?

Metal: Hellsinger leaves controversial feelings. On the one hand, there is not much here. Weapons. Enemies. levels. Music. But the budget of the game, let’s be honest, is not at the level of Rockstar projects… On the other hand, almost everything that is here is done at least well, if not amazing!

If you’re familiar with Serj Tankian and System of a Down, Alyssa White-Gluz and Arch Enemy, and metal in general … If you’ve been missing hell, demons, and epic carnage, this game definitely deserves a chance. In the end, you can appreciate it thanks to the demo.
