Mona Lisa Painting Attacked Again with a Pie

A visitor attacked the Mona Lisa painting, Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.

According to French press reports, the person, who calls himself a climate activist, entered the room where the painting was displayed, in a wheelchair dressed as an old woman.

It was claimed that the person who threw the cream cake brought with her and sprinkled rose petals on the floor was intervened by salon staff, while the painting was not damaged. Thanks to the protective layer of glass.

The identity of the man and his motives are unknown. However, some assume that the act was not intended to damage the painting, but rather to raise public awareness of the importance of caring for the planet. In one of the videos posted on Twitter, the young man can be heard saying, in French:

“Think of the Earth, there are people who are destroying the planet. All artists, think of the Earth, that’s why I did this, think of the planet.

Immediately, the security agents arrested him and expelled him from the room. Likewise, the museum staff came to clean the painting before the astonished gaze of the visitors who recorded the moment.

The attacker’s justification

In the press images, the attacker, while leaving the room accompanied by security guards, turned towards the cameras.

Think about the Earth. There are those who are trying to destroy the planet. All craftsmen consider on the planet, that’s why I did it.”

On the other hand, it was striking that other museum visitors competed with each other to take a picture of the painting, whose glass was covered with cream.

While the work was on display at the Tokyo National Museum in 1974, a woman in a wheelchair had spray-painted the glass protecting the painted red, protesting the muse’s failure to install ramps for the disabled .

In 1956, a Bolivian student threw a stone at the painting, breaking the protective glass and damaging the piece.

It is claimed that the great painter called Leonardo da Vinci painted this painting of the Mona Lisa between 1503 and 1519.

This is not the first attack that the work has suffered, in 1911 the iconic painting was stolen and in 1956 a man threw a stone at the painting, which destroyed the display case and released a piece of pigment.

While, in 1974, at an exhibition in a Tokyo museum, a visitor sprayed it with red spray paint. The latest incident occurred in 2009 when a woman threw a porcelain cup at the painting.
