Porsche-911 Sally Special a Unique-Car For a Good Cause

Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios have unveiled a very special Porsche inspired by one of the most popular 911: Sally Carrera, a character from the Pixar-produced Cars movie released by Disney.

There will be only one 911 Sally Special in the world – and for the first time such a project was supported by Pixar. On Saturday, August 20, a unique car will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s as part of the Monterey Car Week auto show in California. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to two charities.

One part will go to Girls Inc., which protects the interests of young women. The other part will be transferred to the United States for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which provides support to refugees from Ukraine.

Cars should have their own face and their own history. And the animated film “Cars” has presented this on screen in an impressive way, says Dr. Sebastian Rudolf, Head of Public Relations and Press, Sustainability and Policy at Porsche AG. – In this story, the main attention is paid to such values as friendship, love and mutual assistance, and the main character is Porsche – Sally Carrera. Together with Pixar, we decided to give a new life to this character. By auctioning our unique road-legal 911 Sally

The project began in November 2021, bringing together members of the first team behind Cars, which gave birth to both the movie character and full-size model Sally Carrera more than 20 years ago.

The team included Jay Ward, creative director of the Pixar Animation Studios franchise, and production designer Bob Pauley, who first drew Sally Carrera for Cars. They were supported by members of the Sonderwunsch Team from the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Stuttgart and the designers from Style Porsche in Weissach. The team worked for 10 months, and the result was a truly unique car.

“We had a lot of fun making the 911 Sally Special and this is the first time we’ve worked on a project like this,” said Jay Ward, creative director of the Pixar Animation Studios franchise. – Even at the very first stage, it was decided to create a full-fledged 911 – inspired by Sally Carrera, but not her exact copy. Sally Carrera loves movement – and we were inspired by it. We asked ourselves, if Sally were designed today as a road legal vehicle, what would she look like?

“The 911 Sally Special is based on the fastest and most agile variant of the 911 Carrera, the 480 hp 911 Carrera GTS. The car is equipped with a manual transmission and thus corresponds to the dynamic character of Sally Carrera, says Boris Apenbrink, head of the automotive division of Porsche Exclusive Manufacture. – A variety of individual details have been carefully crafted.

The 911 Sally Special was one of the most intense, emotional and detailed Special Wishes projects our team has ever worked on. Here is one example: the car is painted in Sally Blue Metallic. This paint was developed specifically for our project and applied to the body by hand.

Of course, we haven’t forgotten about Sally’s tattoo either. The solution of the tasks before us was very difficult.” The Sally Carrera Turbo rims have been reinterpreted by the Style Porsche designers in Weissach and have been specially made for the 911 Sally Special. The rims of the so-called “five-spoke design” have been adapted to the wheel size of the current 911 generation (20″/21″) and create a visual link with the 996 generation 911 from which Sally Carrera was based.

Porsche interior designer Daniela Milosevic led the team that collaborated with Pixar to create the new blue color and interior of the car. “We got complete creative freedom, and it was great! In the film, Sally Carrera was a California lawyer who values style and elegance. She is clear-headed and cheerful at the same time,” says Milosevic. – The special color Sally Blue Metallic is continued in the interior and appears there both in bright accents and in subtle details that will probably bring a smile to the future owner. At the same time, it was important for us not to forget about suitability for everyday use and practicality.

The 911 Sally Special is designed to be ridden often and with pleasure. We have developed a special fabric upholstery with pepita check in three colors, which was paired with Crayon chalk leather and Speed Blue stitching. Working on such details makes the project a special challenge and brings to mind numerous moments from the film and scenes with Sally Carrera. Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios gives us hope that we will be able to keep these people safe in the coming months.”
