‘You ruined so many lives: R Kelly’s victims make emotional statements:

Jane — the alias of the 37-year-old at Kelly’s trial for child sexual abuse images and obstruction of justice allegations — told jurors that in the late 1990s, when she was 13, she asked the Grammy-winning singer to become her godfather because she saw him as an inspiration and mentor.

According to her, in a few weeks, Kelly will call her and tell her sexual things. She said that he first touched her breasts and other parts of her body when she was about 14 years old in a recording studio in Chicago, and around the same time, he “began infiltrating” his home on the North Side of Chicago. She told jurors that she was 15 years old when they first had sexual intercourse.

When asked by the prosecutor how she knew what to do sexually, Jane replied: “He will tell me what to do.”

When asked how many times they had sex before she turned 18, she quietly replied, “Countless times. Hundreds.”

Prosecutors say a video Kelly made of him having sex with Jane around 2000 led to the singer’s first investigation.

Speaking softly and uncertainly, Jane described her upbringing in a suburban Chicago musical family, including being homeschooled because she was in a touring band that she joined when she was about 12 years old.

Among the most serious charges facing Kelly in federal court is a conspiracy to obstruct justice by allegedly falsifying a 2008 lawsuit over state charges of child sexual abuse images stemming from an alleged video of him and Jane having sex.

R Kelly paid off and threatened Jane not to testify:

Among other things, prosecutors say Kelly paid off and threatened Jane not to testify. She didn’t, and he was acquitted.

Kelly also went to trial on charges of creating child sexual abuse images and seducing minors for sex. Unlike the 2008 trial, Jane cooperated with prosecutors ahead of the current trial and is a key witness.

A conviction in Chicago could add decades to a 30-year prison sentence. This year, Kelly received convictions from a New York federal judge for allegedly using his fame to sexually abuse other young fans. Various accusers testified at this trial.

Jane met Kelly in the late 1990s while she was in high school. She went to his Chicago recording studio with her aunt, a professional singer. Soon after, Jane told her parents that Kelly would be her godfather.

Prosecutors said Kelly filmed the video of Jane in a log cabin-style room at her home between 1998 and 2000 when she was only 13 years old. You can hear the girl calling the man “dad”.

Kelly, who had broken out of poverty on the south side of Chicago to become a star singer, songwriter, and producer, knew that the 2008 conviction would effectively end his life, just as he knew.

According to prosecutors, he told his parents and Jane to leave Chicago, paying for a trip to the Bahamas and Mexico. When they returned, prosecutors say that Kelly tried to isolate Jane by moving her to different hotels. When Jane, her father, and her mother were called before the state grand jury, they denied that she was involved.

Kelly was acquitted of all charges of child sexual abuse images. Some jurors told reporters they weren’t sure the woman in the video was the woman prosecutors named her for.

Prior to her 2008 trial, Kelly carried around a duffel bag full of sex tapes. he went, but some of the tapes later went missing, according to court documents. In the 2000s, counterfeit copies appeared throughout the United States.

In the early 2000s, an aunt showed her parents a copy of a video that she said showed their daughter having sex with Kelly. When they confronted Kelly, he told them, “Are you with me or against me,” the government document says. The parents took it as a threat.

Kelly, who denied wrongdoing, was dogged for decades by complaints and allegations about his sexual behavior. The scrutiny has intensified in the #MeToo era and since the 2019 six-part documentary Surviving R Kelly.

He also faces four charges of sexually abusing minors, one for the other four accusers. They are expected to testify. Prosecutors told jurors that the evidence included at least three videos of Kelly having sex with underage girls.

Two of Kelly’s associates, Darrell McDavid and Milton Brown, are co-defendants. McDavid is accused of helping Kelly fix a 2008 lawsuit, and Brown is accused of obtaining child sexual abuse images. Like Kelly, they also deny wrongdoing.
