The announcement of his death by the Hollywood Reporter indicates that the actor from Connecticut died Sunday morning at his home in France, in the town of Bozouls (Aveyron). The sad news was revealed by his writer friend Bill Scheft, indicating that Richard Belzer “  had many health problems  ”. As for his last words, the writer assures that his friend would have let go: “Fuck you, motherfucker! »

Humorist and actor Richard Lewis ( Curb Your Enthusiasm, Anything but Love ) who began his stand-up career at the same time as Richard Belzer, has also paid tribute to him by evoking the one who “made him laugh a billion times.

Despite an early career in cinema with incursions into films by Alan Parker, Brian de Palma, and Ron Howard, it was on television and thanks to television series that Richard Belzer gradually carved out a place for himself in the hearts of the spectators.

Enough to make Inspector Munch one of the most recurring characters on American television with no less than nine appearances in different series. The most recent being in the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Passed by the stand-up, the actor was also known for his comic tempo, offering a particular character to his character as a cynical inspector and particularly oriented towards conspiracy theories. His last real appearance in his character’s costume was in 2013’s Law & Order: SVU, despite a surprise new appearance in 2014.
