
Pakistan’s ex-PM Khan Shot

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Khan was shot in a convoy. His party says he was only slightly injured. Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot and slightly injured in an attack. Khan’s party said a gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon on a truck Khan was inside. He injured his foot and was taken to a hospital.
The 70-year-old’s condition is “stable,” said Khan’s adviser Raoof Hasan to the AFP news agency. “It was an attempt to kill him, to murder him,” Hasan said.
One man dead, one man was arrested the attacker was shot, Hassan explained. A second man was arrested. Rescue workers confirmed that one person had been shot dead – it was unclear whether it was the attacker. A video circulated by local media reportedly shows the arrested man making a confession. He says he wanted to kill Khan and acted alone. More people were injured according to rescue workers, and seven other people were injured in the incident. A subsequent panic in the crowd led to further injuries.

On the way to Islamabad attack is said to have occurred in the Wazirabad district of Punjab province. Khan was on his way to the capital, Islamabad, in a convoy to campaign for early elections. Acting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the act. Pakistani President Arif Alvi spoke of a “shocking attack” on Twitter. According to the police, there are already small protests in several parts of the capital Islamabad.
