The Legend of Zelda, Tears Of The Kingdom Game Review

There are several spirit worlds and mystical dimensions in Legend of Zelda, and players can get the chance to visit them again in TOTK.

The Legend of Zelda is full of magical power and mystical worlds, and Tears of the Kingdom may return to some of the legendary worlds that have previously appeared in the franchise. As Breath of the Wild continues in the upcoming sequel, scheduled for release next May, it looks like some of the plots from previous Zelda games could also come to a fateful conclusion in this next game. A link has already been shown exploring a Skyloft-like celestial zone in TOTK trailers, but it’s likely that magical realms outside of Hyrule’s physical confines will also return.

While most of Link’s adventures in  The Legend of Zelda have taken him to the far reaches of the kingdom of Hyrule, many other lands and places have taken him on their own journeys throughout the series. Games such as  Majora’s Mask have prominently transported Link to distant lands, while others such as  Link’s Awakening transport him to mystical dream worlds in a completely different reality. However, some parallel worlds to Hyrule appear to affect its long history across multiple eras of the  Zelda timeline, meaning they may reappear in future games as well.

Since  Breath of the Wild takes place at the very end of the Zelda timeline, it goes without saying that its sequel could re-incorporate past plots, characters, and locations to address various aspects of the series’ storytelling. Fans were quick to spot references to games like  Twilight Princess and  Skyward Sword, which are already featured in both BOTW and the three TOTK trailers released so far. As such, it’s entirely possible that fate, set in motion by the events of TOTK’s predecessors, could lead to the reappearance of  Zelda’s most important magical realms in the upcoming game.

The Sacred Realm may return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Fans of The Legend of Zelda are likely familiar with the Sacred Realm, as the Triforce was located in this spirit space for most of Hyrule’s history. The Sacred Realm was especially important in  Ocarina of Time, as Link and Zelda’s quest required them to access the Sacred Realm in an attempt to stop Ganondorf from claiming the power of the Triforce. However, upon opening, the Sacred Realm was captured by Ganondorf, who stole the Trinity and caused it to break into three pieces.

Although the Sacred Realm is spoken of as the land of light, its divine power has caused countless conflicts in the history of Hyrule. Civil wars and chaotic battles between good and evil have been waged over its sacred Triforce, and while the royal family of Hyrule has long stood guard over the Sacred Realm, their efforts to protect the Triforce have often resulted in disaster for their kingdom. When Ganon’s malice invades Hyrule again in  “Tears of the Kingdom “, it seems that the battle for the Sacred Realm is far from over.

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom May Include The Twilight World

The Twilight Realm of the Twilight Princess is a parallel world to Hyrule, existing in a state of peace and tranquility for most of its history. This dark realm is inhabited by the Twili, descendants of a group of sorcerers exiled from Hyrule after they tried to control the Sacred Realm with their magic. This conflict is said to have sparked a civil war in Hyrule, but it is unclear exactly who the Twili were before they were imprisoned in the Realm of Twilight.

Fans were quick to notice that the trailers released for  Tears of the Kingdom have featured some noteworthy Twili images so far, indicating a strong likelihood of this Realm being relevant in the upcoming game. In particular, the images of the snake and ouroboros that appear in the trailers for TOTC are extremely similar to the snake ornaments that adorned the throne room of the Palace of Twilight. These snake-like carvings and hieroglyphs in particular appear in the ruins of Zonai in  BOTW, prompting many theories about the connection between the two.

The mysterious Zonai tribe is said to have disappeared from Hyrule in ancient times, but details of who they were and where they went are unknown. It is possible that the Zonai tribe was the same group of transgressors who once tried to use their magic on the Sacred Realm to bend it to their will, resulting in them being imprisoned in the Twilight Realm. If Zone and Twili are truly connected, then it goes without saying that the Twilight Realm will reappear as the  Tears of the Kingdom explore the mysteries of this ancient tribe.

The tears of the kingdom may see the return of the dark world of Ganon

The Dark World is an evil realm created by Ganon who corrupted the Sacred Realm in  The Legend of Zelda series. While the Sacred Realm itself may return in  TOTK, it’s possible that the twisted Dark World may also make an appearance. Ganon’s malice is shown to corrupt much of Hyrule in  BOTW, allowing it to spread into the game’s iteration of the Sacred Realm as well.

However, it’s unclear exactly what state  Zelda’s Sacred Realm is in during the  Breath of the Wild era. The game’s somewhat ambiguous placement in the timeline makes it difficult to determine which branch it belongs to, although it is said to take place at the end of the story. It is entirely possible that the Sacred Realm remains a safe land in this era, but there is an equal chance that Ganon’s malice has corrupted this divine realm again. As such, fans speculated that the stories of BOTW and  TOTK would lead to the ending of the broken Zelda timeline.

If  Tears of the Kingdom is about time travel, as  Zelda fans have already begun to theorize, maybe Link and Zelda will need access to the Sacred Realm, the Dark World, or both, in order to defeat Calamity Ganon once and for all. The Sacred Realm has already been shown to allow time travel, as previously shown in  Twilight Princess and  Ocarina of Time. However, it is also possible that the evils of the Dark World will prevent such a feat if it is actually corrupted by Ganon’s malice, which may require players to restore the fabled Golden Land once more. Link and Zelda’s quest to save Hyrule may lead them through several mystical worlds to  Tears of the Kingdom., but players will have to wait for the game’s release next year to find out for sure.
