Argentina – Croatia (December 13, 22:00)
In the quarterfinals, the Croatian national team sensationally defeated the Brazilian national team. In regular time, the teams did not score (0:0), in extra time they scored once (1:1), and in the penalty shootout, the Croats turned out to be more accurate – 4:2. The Argentines also beat the Dutch national team in a dramatic match.
Van Gaal’s team, trailing 0-2, scored two goals at the end of the second half, with the last one in the 90+11th minute. So the score became 2:2. There were no goals in extra time, and Lionel Messi’s team turned out to be more accurate in the penalty shootout – 4:3. Argentina and Croatia met twice at the World Cup: in 1998, the South Americans were stronger in the group (1: 0), and in 2018, also in the group, the Europeans (3: 0).
