The cause of death for the 38-year-old former NFL coach was not immediately known.

The Minnesota Vikings mourned the death of their former defensive assistant, Adam Zimmer, who died at the age of 38 on Tuesday.

“We have the utmost respect for Adam and are incredibly saddened by this tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Zimmer family at this time,” was part of the Vikings ‘ message on their social media.

Adam Zimmer began his NFL assistant coaching career with the New Orleans Saints as linebackers coach, a role he held from 2006 to 2009; he was part of the winning team for Super Bowl XLIV .

In 2010 he held that same position with the Kansas City Chiefs until 2012.

From there he went to the Cincinnati Bengals, a team where he coached linebackers in 2013 under his father who served as a defensive coach before they both left for the Vikings in 2014.

This season Adam was a consultant for the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that also joined in the condolences.
