Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics

The last time we saw the Celtics, they fell to the Warriors in the NBA Finals. However, this team was managed by Ime Udoka, who was suspended for the entire 2022-23 season. Tuesday’s opener against Philadelphia will mark the first NBA regular-season coaching appearance for Joe Mazzola, the 34-year-old former assistant who has been in Boston for three seasons.

This would be the first maiden game as a Sixer for James Harden, who was snapped up by Philadelphia at the trade deadline last season. He signed a new two-year deal this offseason, taking a pay cut from his player option to give the Sixers coverage space to add PJ Tucker, who won a title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021 and helped the Miami Heat. to reach the conference finals last season.

Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors

The Warriors enter the season looking to become the first consecutive NBA champion since… the Warriors. Golden State accomplished the feat in 2017 and 2018 when Kevin Durant starred for the Bay Area. Now it’s Andrew Wiggins teaming with Stephen Curry, Clay Thompson, and Draymond Green, and Wiggins just signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Warriors through 2026-27. It’s unclear what that extension, and another four-year deal for Jordan Ball, means for Draymond Green. Green made headlines this offseason when he punched Paul in practice and is still waiting on his own contract extension.

While the Warriors were the last team to hold out last season, the Lakers failed to make the postseason for the second time in four years with LeBron James on the roster. James is entering this season not only trying to get back into the playoffs but also looking to break the NBA scoring record. He will team up again with Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, the latter spending his entire vacation period amid trade rumors and coming off the bench in his final preseason appearance, something he hasn’t done in a regular-season game since juice.
