The electric iX4 will replace the departing BMW X4. The newest casualty of the electric revolution is the new BMW X4. According to insiders, BMW was evaluating the next-generation X4 and determined that it wouldn’t be worthwhile to release a new version of the vehicle given the low demand for gasoline-powered vehicles.

In 2025, BMW will launch its purpose-built all-electric Neue Klasse platform:
It will significantly alter its current portfolio of vehicles. It was originally intended to replace the X4 with a next-generation model built on the CLAR platform and offer an electric variant built on the Neue Klasse architecture.
The current model of the gas-powered X4 will be the final one made; plans are already changing. The all-electric X4 will be built in Debrecen, Hungary, and is most likely going to go by the name iX4. It will arrive later than the replacement for the X4 was supposed to.
The all-new, all-electric BMW 3 series and an SUV will be the first two vehicles built on the Neue Klasse platform when it launches in 2025. The Neue Klasse SUV’s most likely contender is the internal designation model NA5 iX3. In 2026, the iX4 (NA7) will come after.

The new platform has faster charging:
The new platform, which will use Gen6 batteries for the first time with a 30% increase in range and faster charging, is generating increasing interest. The new batteries can cut production costs in half, which should result in somewhat better car parts.
To simplify logistics, the new batteries will be produced locally for automobiles built in Europe. The first two suppliers to sign contracts with BMW are CATL and Eve Energy.
The battery packs will support charging speeds of up to 270kW and will be around 20% lighter than the ones now in use thanks to the improved design. BMW asserts that the new batteries would keep at least 80% of their capacity after 10 years, despite having a high nickel concentration and a low cobalt level.
The new iX4 is expected to make its debut in 2026, so we may anticipate seeing the initial designs starting next year. If there are no unforeseen delays, initial road testing will probably start by the end of 2024.
