A CEO discusses the five sorts of toxic people he encounters repeatedly

A CEO  warns, “Beware of these signals.” There are many toxic people in the world, making it difficult to collaborate with them. The goal is to learn how to identify them early on, which can be challenging. When you first meet someone, you perceive them at their prime. When I encounter someone whose actions I cannot comprehend or who is difficult to get along with, I leave soon.

Throughout my 10+ years as a CEO, investor, and creator, I’ve worked with hundreds of people in business, and I’ve repeatedly encountered five sorts of toxic people. Observe these indicators to avoid working with these individuals as much as possible:

Shareholders:

They are motivated by fear or the need to maintain control. They dislike those who possess skills they lack or who dislike themselves less than they do. If you are succeeding, they believe it is their duty to ensure your failure.

How to look after them: Those who do not speak up are exploited by those who do not. Highlight the positive qualities that each of you brings to the table. Demonstrate that you can both succeed by cooperating.

Hijackers:

Such type of toxic people intends to take advantage of your weakness and appropriate your strengths. I have witnessed numerous Hijackers in charge of things. Instead of attempting to take advantage of other people’s shortcomings in order to extract value from creatives, they do not realize that they must grasp these flaws in order to do so.

How to look after them: Accept credit for your labor when it is deserved. Victims:

They do not believe they deserve success, therefore they are pleased and appreciative when it arrives. But the environment in which victims reside is always unjust. They believe that every obstacle is evidence that they are being treated unfairly.

How to look after them: A victim’s primary argument could be that they have too many responsibilities. Raise your hand if you wish to assist, but be aware that your offer will likely be declined. In the future, continue to emphasize your willingness to assist and identify team players.

Martyrs:

Martyrs are similar to victims in that they execute the task, but not adequately enough to compensate for the psychological drain they place on an organization. They take on as much as they can bear, not to aid the team as a whole, but to support the tale they tell themselves that they are being forced to unfairly carry the burdens of others.

How to look after them: Convince them that the best thing they can do to aid a cause is to assign jobs to the most qualified individuals. Urge them to focus their efforts on putting others to work rather than attempting to accomplish everything themselves.

Gaslighters:

Gaslighters are those toxic people who frequently exhibit narcissistic characteristics. They act simultaneously as Withholders, Hijackers, Victims, and Martyrs in an attempt to convince others that they cannot see what is occurring in front of them.

Set restrictions for them to keep them on track to contribute whatever value they can, and do not be bothered with the remainder of what they do. This is how you will care for them. The spark that they are attempting to kindle will never catch if you do not make an effort to understand their point of view.
