Resident Evil Village has an arcade shooter mode called The Mercenaries. The score-chasing minigame only had one playable character at the time of its debut, protagonist Ethan Winters. Village’s Gold Edition will introduce a slew of new playable characters, each with their unique set of gameplay quirks. Lady Dimitrescu, a 9-foot tall vampire, is perhaps the most known of these.

Since her first appearance in the game’s debut trailer, Lady Dimitrescu has been adored by fans for perfectly natural and chaste reasons. Some Resident Evil Village fans were irritated to see that Dimitrescu only arrives for a few minutes before Ethan Winters does what he does well and kills her in a lavish boss battle. The fact that Dimitrescu is now a new character in The Mercenaries is a welcome addition. Many people were taken aback. She’ll be joined by Chris Redfield, a long-time series protagonist, and Karl Heisenberg, a fellow Village antagonist, who will both be introduced to The Mercenaries in Dark Souls Village: Gold Edition.

Resident Evil Village is one of only 2 mainline Resident Evil games to have a first-person perspective, so the new third-person mode is a welcome addition. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard brought a fresh perspective to the series, and Village took advantage of it, leaving third-person cameras to the endless stream of Resident Evil remakes. Village will have a more traditional feel thanks to the new option, which mimics the over-the-shoulder third-person camera viewpoint that has been common for the franchise since Resident Evil 4. While third-person action may not appear to be a significant change, it will be the first time gamers will be able to see Ethan Winters while playing as him.

Resident Evil Village is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Google Stadia. On October 28, 2022, Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition will be released on all platforms, complete with a third-person mode & new playable characters, just in time for Halloween.
